What do we do

CMO Groningen advises, researches, develops and implements. In a word, you can bring us into action for a complete project, but not necessarily. We offer services tailored to the customer and can be of service to you in miscellaneous aspects of a wide variety of fields. Not only do we develop projects, we also execute them ourselves.

Our sphere of activity covers widely divergent themes. However, a number of activities receive extra attention, such as Youth, Participation, Housing/Welfare/Care, and Research.

Youth
What issues to do with upbringing are relevant in your town or city? How do you gain a clear insight into the intramural and extramural care offered by your school? How do you elucidate bottlenecks in the current system of assistance and how do you make sure that supply and demand are geared to each other? How do you set up a Centre for Youth and Family Affairs?

CMO Groningen will be pleased to help you! Making connections is our strength. Youth consultants, for example, make connections between youth policy, education policy, youth health care, safety policy, the Social Assistance Act and youth care, and give suggestions and support during the implementation of policy.

Participation
We seek to help build a society in which everyone in the province of Groningen can participate: both elderly and younger people, persons with and without a handicap, minorities, girls as well as boys.

We can assist you in your efforts to develop and implement participation policy, be it raising the level of commitment in a neighbourhood, making up lags in development, volunteer work and aid, or social practical training. You can call on us with your questions any time.

Housing/Welfare/Care
Livability in neighbourhoods, districts and in villages is a topic of the day, also thanks to the introduction of the Social Assistance Act. To a much higher extent than in former days, a strong appeal is made to volunteers and citizens’ individual responsibility. Elderly people continue to live on their own longer than in the past, which necessitates a social network.

Consequently the demand for voluntary effort in the field of housing, welfare and care will rise. How, as a municipality, do you prepare for such a situation? We can assist you in this process and offer support in developing and implementing policy or – for example – setting up a Support Centre for the Elderly.

Research bureau
What is the position with regard to the school attendance registration; do we have a good idea of the whereabouts and activities of young people? How satisfied are clients with the way in which the Social Assistance Act is implemented in my municipality? Is it a good idea to set up a facility for homeless people? Have inhabitants of the province of Groningen become poorer and poorer the last ten years?

These are examples of questions to which the research bureau can supply you with relevant answers and information, so that you can make a considered decision. The strength of the research bureau is in the combination of research and advice. We do not only focus on the ‘what’, but also on the ‘why’.

The research bureau takes care of quick-scans, index number research and monitoring, evaluative assessment and customer satisfaction research.

What have we done

In the course of years CMO Groningen has developed and carried out a large number of projects and studies – also internationally – for example

• ‘Business4All’, a project to stimulate women’s entrepreneurship in Surinam, under the terms of the Twinning facility Surinam-Netherlands regulation
• ‘People to People’ and ‘Franchise for Women’, to stimulate women’s entrepreneurship in rural areas, under the terms of Interreg IIIA and Interreg IVA respectively
• ‘Starting qualification’, ‘Closing the chain, with prospects’, ‘Internal and external care structures in Intermediate Vocational Education’ and ‘PRO REC Chain towards schooling and employment’, all of them to prevent school absenteeism among young people, all under the terms of Equal.

We are constantly developing new activities in the extensive domain of care, welfare, education and related fields.
